Use physical measurements and a consistent photo to compare small, medium and larger layouts without mistaking photo pixels for real size.
Choose a real-world boundary
Measure the width and height of the area you are considering. Use centimeters or inches consistently. Our size calculator converts units and compares rectangular footprints; it cannot tell you which detail will remain readable.
Save a controlled comparison
Keep the same photo, change only artwork size, then save a preview. Repeat for a second size. Mirror only if the design makes sense reversed; lettering becomes backward when flipped.
Check on your body with the artist
Photos flatten curves and perspective changes apparent size. Ask for stencil checks while standing naturally and moving the area. The artist should confirm line spacing, orientation and fit before tattooing.
